Heat Safety
The article CORE’s Heat Zones describes the physiological effects of various Heat Strain Index values. Elevating the core body temperature and the Heat Strain Index – even in a controlled way – carries risks.

Heat training involves elevated core and skin temperatures. Overexposure to high temperatures can be dangerous to your health and can lead to heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and in extreme cases heat stroke with potentially fatal consequences. To reduce the risk of overheating and dehydration, drink plenty of water before, during and after heat training. If you experience heat-related symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, numbness, tingling, muscle cramps, headache, confusion, and/or fainting, stop exercising and consult a health care professional.

Heat zones apply to healthy individuals only. If you have a known illness or disease, or are under medical treatment, please consult a doctor for advice on how to train and race using the heat zones.

Heat zones are activity-related and do not apply to fever.

The CORE sensor and heat zones are designed for adults and have not been tested on children. The characteristics of children’s thermoregulatory systems differ from that of adults and CORE products should not be used to predict heat stress in those younger than 18 years old.

Thermoregulation is highly individual, and therefore individual heat zone thresholds may vary for each user. The user, in consultation with a qualified coach and/or health care professional, must take responsibility for determining the appropriate heat thresholds for his/her individual situation.

An individual’s reaction to elevated Heat Strain values may vary from day to day. For example, dehydration, the undetected start of an illness, or excessive fatigue may cause a stronger reaction than typical.
