Connectivity - Wahoo and CORE sensor
Connecting the CORE sensor to your Wahoo bike computer is like pairing with any other sensor, it is setup once and then it automatically connects. The Wahoo Rival Watch does not yet allow the CORE sensor to be paired.
The setup for Wahoo bike computers is a provisional approach pending provide full-integration for core body temperature and skin temperature data by Wahoo. This means that this temperature data is displayed in the THB data field.
Setup requires the Wahoo ELEMNT Smart Phone App. It is possible to pair to a new sensor like the CORE Sensor directly on the Wahoo bike computer, however the ELEMNT Smart Phone app is usually required to setup the pages (screen) to display live data.
STEP 1 - Pair your Heart Rate Monitor to the CORE sensor
Pair your Heart Rate Monitor to your CORE.
This is essential for using the CORE sensor for sports for the best accuracy.
STEP 2 - Add CORE sensor
A. Shake the CORE sensor to ensure that it is on (look for the blinking green lights)
B. Inside the Wahoo ELEMNT App, go to Settings -> Set-up Sensor
C. Look inside "unsaved sensors" for ‘Muscle Oxygen’. This will be the CORE sensor which has been identified.
D. Click and save it. The CORE sensor is now paired.
E. We suggest renaming it to "CORE" so that it can be easily identified.
STEP 3 - Setup Data fields on Wahoo
Datafields need to be assigned so that the Wahoo bike computer can display real-time core body temperature.
A. Inside the Wahoo ELEMNT App select an existing 'Page' or make a new custom Page
B. Add/Edit the data fields and choose:
Muscle Oxygen > Total Hemoglobin (THB)
This will display core body temperature data with 2 decimals points.
C. Save the changes
Setup is now complete
Notes and Wahoo Settings
When an activity is started, real-time core body temperature data will display in the field marked as THB.
Though the field is marked THB, the metrics will be in Celcius and will also record to the FIT file. At this stage, Wahoo bike computers do not support temperatures in Fahrenheit.
For the display of core body temperature with 1 decimal place, instead of Total Hemoglobin (THB), choose the data field:
Muscle Oxygen > Saturated Hemoglobin (SMO2)
The core body temperature will be shown in a data field marked as SMO2 %
Coming Soon - Skin Temperature
Inside the CORE App > Settings it will soon be possible to to adjust settings to allow for the display and recording of Skin Temperature on Wahoo bike computers.
FIT File Data
The core body temperature data is recorded into the FIT file in the tHb and SmO2 fields. Inside applications such as TrainingPeaks WKO5, Today's Plan, Golden Cheetah and Intervals ICU the core body temperature data can be found inside the tHb (Total Hemoglobin) and SmO2 (Saturated Hemoglobin) and displayed.
