CORE for Sports - Fast Start

Simple steps to setup and start using CORE for performance sports

Congratulations on getting your new CORE... let's get you started quickly.

An assumption is that have followed the initial CORE sensor setup guide and have the latest CORE app and have (if required) updated to the latest firmware (the CORE App will prompt you) and any other software (on Garmin, Wahoo, COROS) is up-to-date.

1. Pair your Heart Rate Monitor

For sports, CORE provides accurate metrics when paired to your ANT+ Heart Rate Monitor.

The heat rate monitor only needs to be paired once (and CORE will find the heart rate monitor automatically). Pairing is easy using the CORE iOS App or CORE Android App.

2. Connect your Garmin, Wahoo or COROS to CORE

Your device will automatically find CORE and records core body temperature into the FIT file.

For Garmin, use the CORE Connect-IQ app.

For Wahoo, "Add a new Sensor" and choose "Muscle Oxygen". This is a working solution, but provisional (where units display in THB rather than ºC or ºF) so be rest-assured we are working with Wahoo on the integration. Here are further instructions for Wahoo.

For COROS, there is native integration and the CORE sensor is recognised over Bluetooth. Further setup guidance for COROS is available here.

3. Your device can be setup to display live Core Body Temperature

The on-screen metric refreshes once per minute. On Garmin, setup a data field and select CORE via the Connect-IQ. On Wahoo the provisional solution to display real-time data is to the Wahoo ELEMNT phone app to set a field using Muscle Oxygen -> Total Hemoglobin. COROS has native integration and can show realtime, max, min and average core body temperature.

4. For accurate results wear CORE correctly

Before an effort or workout, put CORE on well in advance to give it a chance to record your core body temperature (and not the temperature of the desk or sideboard).

For best results, CORE is worn on the heart rate monitor strap on the side of the torso (apical). While CORE can also be worn on an arm-strap or wrist-strap, the temperature values can differ from the torso.

Don't forget to use the small black tabs which are provided as these secure CORE.

5. Battery Life

CORE has a battery life of 5-6 days on one charge. If the standby-mode is set (via the CORE App), the battery life can be extended up to 1 month but don't forget to shake the core to wake it up. A single charge takes 2 hours.

6. Viewing and analysing core body temperature data

7. Your Core Body Temperature is Individual

Allow the time to understand your own individual temperature behaviour and learn your own individual thresholds. We have great resources to get you started including Heat Training information and the Heat Ramp Test.

Hot Tips

  • For best results, wear the CORE 10 minutes before starting a sporting activity.
  • Take care with the magnetic charging cable - as the magnets mean it can attach to other metal items, don't leave it plugged in when not in use... to avoid a short-circuit.
  • For sauna-use, unclip the heart rate monitor so that it is not paired - this is a scenario we are validating to improve accuracy
  • Keep in mind that for heat training, "More is not better". Identify your ideal heat training zone with the Heat Ramp Test and this will help you train effectively.


The CORE sensor is not sold as a medical device and we encourage professional coaching and medical guidance for heat training.

The CORE sensor technology can be used effectively in sports to monitor core body temperature, guide effective heat training and to help avoid undercooling or overheating by taking preventative measures based on the real-time data.

Athletes should only train to their own individual thresholds.
